We Are Living In Exponential Times

We are living in exponential times! Every day we witness an explosion of information; what we do with it or what we don’t do with it controls us. With or without us the world evolves!

We are living in a period of profound change. The shear force of the pace of change seems overwhelming at times. As more and more information streams across our desk, tvs, phones, and all of the other information devices now so prevalent in our lives, it can make us feel like we are drowning in a deluge of information.

So how do we keep from drowning? That is what information management is all about! Not only can we survive the deluge we can prosper by it. The object is to learn how to stream the information so the important information finds us. This ability to manage information will provide the foundations for unlimited creativity and innovation.

This reminded me of an article I read a while ago about how Moore's Law will lead us to Singularity (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/24/weekinreview/...). I am not sure how much of Mr Kurzweil's predictions will come true, but as an avid sci-fi fan, I have strong belief that it is such kind of imagination that will help us break the boundaries of our physical capabilities. Information Management is a very volatile term because information itself is constantly growing and changing. I guess the advances in technology will help us really exploit information, rather than trying to label, tag, categorize, and store it. Maybe our artificial counterparts may have a competitive edge in doing so, because their design is based on information. We shall see.

  2. Thank you for your comment. My hope is that we humans will learn how to truly use information to better understand our world and each other. We can learn a lot by using technology to work with information, but the question is what will we do with all that information.

It is an exciting time to live (especially if you are a Sci-Fi fan) and the promise of tomorrow's technology shifts our minds into hyper-drive with all the possibilities. Hopefully, our human side will helps us to properly use it to have meaningful discourse with each other.

Human mind is a mysterious thing. Who knows what will happen when it goes into hyper drive? :)
